Lance had made his home in an abandoned car in a junk yard for almost a year before being rescued. He is slowly learning that life is much better on the inside! He is super quiet, very low maintenance and non-aggressive, but he is extremely shy and still very skittish. He will need time to come out of his shell, but he loves to eat, loves getting treats and enjoys head and chin scratches.
He has a very healthy appetite and could win a speed eating competition without a doubt. You turn your back for a second and it's all gone. He is very stealthy and the only way to know he ate it is to listen for his loud lip smacking. He makes the cat equivalent sounds to "nom, nom, nom". It's pretty cute.
Lance was living in an abandoned car in a junkyard for probably almost a year before being rescued. Lance has tested positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). FIV+ cats can live long happy lives with a good diet, low stress, indoor homes, loving families, and annual vet check-ins. He does not require medication. He can live in a home with other non-FIV+ cats, as the virus is only passed to other cats by blood (ie. deep bite marks). Please do not judge him based on a blood test!
TCR is one of the most successful rescue groups to re-home FIV cats, so we tend to have a lot in our care. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Lance is still very shy but he has made a lot of progress in the few weeks spent in his foster home. His eyes and ears have perked up and he is becoming more comfortable and curious with his surroundings.He is comfortable in places that are a little more private, so that he can watch his surroundings and feel safe, but he is slowly coming around and learning that cuddling with his foster mom (with a little coercion) isn't so scary after all! He has even started purring and rolling on his back to get belly rubs! He is becoming much more comfortable, and clearly likes the attention. With time and attention, Lance will be a great pet for someone!
Though he is most likely to be braver and scope out his surroundings when he thinks you aren't looking, he has been playing with his foster brother and his eyes tell me he wants to join the social club and with a little encouragement and patience, I think he will come around.
He may hiss at you if he is startled or feeling defensive, but his "bark" is much worse than his bite, and he is not at all aggressive.
Lance is now ready for his second chance at a furrever home, one with lots of attention and affection would only suit. Is Lance the newest addition to your loving family?
